California ISO prepares for surge in grid-scale energy storage

California ISO has launched an initiative to encourage and foster innovation on grid-scale energy storage, placing itself at the forefront of this new strategic challenge. The goal of this initiative is to partner with industry actors to ensure market rules evolve and progress to allow more innovation and a strengthened reliability of these storage systems for grid operators. At the end of 2020, California ISO had about 250 megawatts (MW) of storage resources, and aims at a total of 2,000 MW by August 1 this year.
