GCCIA to develop regional interconnection between Iraq and Gulf states

The Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) has finalized a €220 million project to link up Iraq with Gulf states’ electricity grids, including
the construction of 295km of lines from the al-Wafra station in Kuwait to the al-Faw station in southern Iraq.

The final capacity of this new strategic interconnection in the Gulf region will reach 1.8GW, and help power Iraq’s economy and population. This major project will also include environmental and social studies, and will be funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), in partnership with GCCIA.
