On Tuesday November 28th, GO15 member Terna celebrated in Brussels with the European Commission and Tunisian power grid operator Steg the signing of the agreement which will allow the implementation of the Elmed electric interconnection between Italy and Tunisia.
The connection will be approximately 220 km long, with 600 MW of power and a total investment of €850 million, including the €307 million grant from the European Commission.
As mentioned by Giuseppina di Foggia, CEO of Terna and GO15 2023 Vice-President, “Elmed is a strategic infrastructure for Italy and Europe, one of the most important projects of Terna’s Development Plan and will contribute to the increase and integration of renewable energy sources in both continents, allowing Italy and the EU to enhance energy independence”.
