National Grid ESO will become the UK’s “National Energy System Operator” (NESO)

Britain’s National Grid ESO will have a new name and new accountabilities and become the “National Energy System Operator” (NESO), under the Energy Act voted by Parliament last autumn.

Set to be officially launched during the summer of this year, NESO will be an independent, public corporation responsible for planning and operating the nation’s electricity and gas networks. It is tasked with ensuring energy security, affordability and sustainability in the UK.
