China’s solar power capacity surpasses for the first time the 1 TW milestone

China has surpassed 1 terawatt (1,080 gigawatts) of installed solar power capacity as of May 2025, marking a significant global milestone. This represents a 56.9% increase compared to 2024. In May alone, the country added a record-breaking 92.92 GW of new solar capacity, contributing to a total of 197.85 GW installed during the first five months of the year.

Analysts forecast that the pace of new installations should slow in the second half of 2025, as many developers rushed to complete projects ahead of anticipated policy shifts.
