Major power outage on July 4th in Czechia

On July 4, a major power outage struck Czechia, due to the disconnection of the V411 transmission line caused by a fallen phase conductor. This incident led to the shutdown of the sixth unit of the Ledvice power plant and a chain reaction that caused overloading and subsequent disconnection of additional lines, ultimately affecting nine substations.

As a result, electricity production fell by about 1,500 MW, while consumption dropped by approximately 2,700 MW.

Czech TSO ČEPS declared a nationwide state of emergency at noon and emergency crews quickly began restoration efforts. By 3:00 PM, service had resumed across all other affected areas and repairs to the damaged V411 line were completed by 10:00 PM.
