US grid operators report reliable operations during April 8th eclipse

Operations have been reliable and no issue has been identified by US operators as a total eclipse covered the Northeastern American continent on Monday April 8th.

GO15 member MISO as well as ISO-NENYISOSPP and ERCOT have reported they had successfully managed the situation, as the eclipse briefly shaded solar panels across the Eastern part of the United States and Canada.

MISO had increased its short-term, 30-minute reserves, regulation reserves and ramp requirements to manage the eclipse’s impact, with its solar fleet production dropping from nearly 4 GW to just below 300 MW during totality, before returning to about 3.8 GW afterwards.
