Terna has completed submarine works for the Tyrrhenian link between Sicily and Campania

GO15 member and Italian power grid operator Terna has completed the submarine cable installation for the 490km-long eastern section of the Tyrrhenian Link, connecting Campania and Sicily. This €3.7 billion project includes two 500 kV HVDC lines and 2,000 km of underwater cables.

The project will enhance Italy’s grid exchange capacity, reliability, and resilience, linking Sicily, Campania, and Sardinia. It also supports Italy’s decarbonization goals under the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC). Onshore work continues for converter stations in Eboli (Salerno) and Termini Imerese (Palermo), with underground connections to minimize environmental impact.

Congratulations on all Terna teams for this accomplishment!
