PJM selects its first three Expedited Interconnection Track (EIT) projects

PJM has selected the initial three projects for its Expedited Interconnection Track (EIT), a temporary framework to accelerate large-scale generation. Aimed at mitigating rapid load growth, the EIT will accept up to 10 requests annually through 2027. Eligible projects must exceed 250 MW of unforced capacity, secure state-level siting support, and target a three-year operational timeline.

The accepted projects, totaling over 2,100 MW of nameplate capacity and slated for mid-2029, include:

  • An 860 MW battery storage facility in Pennsylvania.
  • An 800 MW battery storage facility in Ohio.
  • A 455 MW upgrade to an existing natural gas plant in Pennsylvania.

PJM anticipates these projects will execute Generation Interconnection Agreements within 10 months of submission. This initiative directly addresses resource adequacy concerns, partly driven by large load additions like data centers.
